I didn't set out to build a marketplace. I set out because I got tired of watching good American brands get treated like a liability.
You know the pattern, because you've lived it. A maker pours a decade into building something better than the imported junk — a knife that holds an edge, a winch that pulls you off the mountain, an optic that survives the recoil and the drop and the rain. They do everything right. They hire here. They build here. They stand behind it with a real warranty signed by a real person.
And then a payment processor freezes their account "pending review." An ad platform throttles their reach to zero. A marketplace buries their listing the week after they spent ten grand on inventory. Nobody tells them why. Nobody has to. The rules are written in a building they'll never enter, by people who would cross the street to avoid them and everything they stand for.
That's not a market deciding. That's a gatekeeper deciding. And I'm done pretending those are the same thing.
Buy once, cry once
I'm a light prepper and an off-road junkie. My whole life has been about one principle: buy once, cry once. Pay for the thing that lasts, take the sting up front, and never think about it again on the trail or in the blackout or the day it actually matters.
That principle doesn't just apply to gear. It applies to where you spend your dollars. Every dollar you send to a platform that despises you is a dollar funding the machine that's trying to make you ashamed of the flag on the box. I'd rather cry once and build something that answers to us.
What OSS America actually is
It's simple. It's a home for the brands that earn it — and the customers who've been struggling to find them.
Every brand here clears the same gate: headquartered here, hiring here, held to a standard. American-made or not, if you build it right and stand behind what you sell, you've earned a place. No algorithm decides what gets seen. No platform tells our brands what they're allowed to show.
And here's the part that makes it a co-op and not just another storefront: half of every dollar a brand pays us in their first year goes straight back into reaching you — on the platforms that won't pull our ads, the podcasts that share our values, the print that our people actually read. Documented every month. Every line item. No black boxes. We pool it, we spend it on getting the whole crew in front of new customers, and we report exactly where it went.
I'm not asking brands to trust a faceless platform. I'm asking them to fight alongside one.
This isn't a pitch. It's a line in the sand.
