Best Ladder Stands (2026): 8 Deer Stands From $135, Ranked

A ladder stand is the easiest way to get a deer hunter off the ground. There's no climbing technique to learn and no sticks to hang. You set it once before the season, and you have a steady, comfortable seat 16 to 22 feet up that a kid, a new hunter or a 70-year-old can climb into in the dark.
We compared the ladder stands hunters are searching for this season and ranked eight that Sportsman's Warehouse had in stock on October 5, 2026, from a 43-lb budget stand to a 22-foot stand that clamps to the tree before you climb and a 4.8-star two-person stand. Every price is from the live listing that day, and specs come from the makers or the listing. This is a research guide built from specs, prices and owner reviews, not a hands-on test.

How we chose
Nobody at OSS America climbed these stands for this guide. We started with what hunters are searching: Google's related searches for "deer stand" over the last 30 days include "best deer stand," "ladder stand" and "ladder deer stand," with "deer stands for sale" breaking out. Then we went through every ladder stand Sportsman's Warehouse listed, kept the ones in stock on October 5, 2026, and checked specs against Big Game's and Muddy's own pages. Rivers Edge and Ol' Man specs come from the Sportsman's listings (Rivers Edge's site redirected to an unrelated page when we tried it).
We compared height, weight rating, seat and platform, stand weight, setup safety and price, and read every Sportsman's owner review, bad ones included, because you'll be sitting 18 feet up.

Prices, stock and home-shipping eligibility checked on sportsmans.com on October 5, 2026, before tax and shipping. "Pickup only" = store pickup or free ship-to-store; home delivery was unavailable to the ZIP code we checked. Heights are as listed and measured differently by each maker. Big Game and Muddy specs from the makers; Rivers Edge and Ol' Man from the Sportsman's listings.
How to read the chart: the three Big Game stands give you height for the least money, all under $9 a foot. The Ol' Man Big Daddy is the best deal on raw height at 22 feet for about $10 a foot. Higher numbers buy a specific feature: a mesh seat, a double-rail ladder, ground-level strapping or room for two. Remember that makers measure height differently (to the rail, the armrests or overall), so treat a foot or two of difference as a tie.

Big Game Hunter HD 1.5 Ladder Stand
Best ladder stand overall

Sportsman's Warehouse: $161.99 (marked down from $179.99) on October 5, 2026, in stock, ships to your home · Height: 18 ft 6 in to shooting rail · Rated: 350 lb
The Hunter HD 1.5 is the ladder stand we'd point most deer hunters to first. It's a "1.5-person" stand, which means a single hunter gets a seat and platform much bigger than a standard one-man stand: Big Game lists a 23-inch-wide by 18-inch-deep Flex-Tek seat, a 23.5 x 29 inch foot platform, and 18 feet 6 inches to the shooting rail. The padded rail flips up and adjusts, the seat flips up for standing shots, and the footrest flips back out of the way.
Big Game rates it for 350 lb, lists it at 61 lb, and uses oval tubing for the four ladder sections. It comes with two ratchet straps, two stabilizer straps, an adjustable support bar and a full-body fall arrest system. Minimum tree size is 9 inches.
Owners on Sportsman's (31 reviews) mostly call it comfortable, sturdy and a strong value. The common complaints: a narrow single-rail ladder, so-so instructions, a harness that one 6-foot-2, 275-lb owner found too small, and one report of a squeaky stand in the wind. At $161.99 (marked down from $179.99), it's under $9 per foot of height.
| Model | BGM-LS0550 |
| Height | 18 ft 6 in to shooting rail |

| Platform | 23.5 x 29 in |
| Stand weight | 61 lb |
| Weight rating | 350 lb |
| Included | Full-body fall arrest system, 2 ratchet + 2 stabilizer straps |
Pros
- + Big 1.5-person seat and deep platform for one hunter
- + 350-lb rating
- + Adjustable flip-up padded rail
- + Under $9 per foot of height
Cons
- − Single-rail ladder is narrow, owners say
- − Instructions get mixed reviews
- − One owner found the included harness too small
Rivers Edge Big Timber 1.5-Man Ladder Stand
Most comfortable single ladder stand

Sportsman's Warehouse: $215.99 (marked down from $239.99) on October 5, 2026, in stock, ships to your home · Height: 18 ft 6 in · Rated: 350 lb
If you sit from dark to dark, the seat matters more than anything else, and the Big Timber 1.5 is built around one. Rivers Edge uses its TearTuff mesh for an extra-wide flip-up seat (23 x 17 inches) and pairs it with a jumbo 23 x 28 inch platform, so you have room to turn for a shot. The shooting rail adjusts two ways, for height and depth, so it fits different hunters, and the footrest flips out for leg room.
Sportsman's lists it at 18 feet 6 inches, 68 lb and a 350-lb rating, with an adjustable stabilizer bar, and says it meets the ASTM standards recognized by the Treestand Manufacturers Association (TMA). We couldn't cross-check Rivers Edge's own site: its domain redirected to an unrelated page when we tried on October 5, so these specs are from the Sportsman's listing.
There are only two owner reviews so far. One owner with four of them calls them very comfortable for long sits. The other found it roomy, light and easy to assemble but says it lacks a back bar to keep you off the tree and doesn't feel as sturdy as their Rivers Edge Jumbo Jack. It was $215.99 (marked down from $239.99) on October 5.

| Model | RE677 |
| Height | 18 ft 6 in |
| Seat | 23 x 17 in TearTuff mesh, flips up |
| Platform | 23 x 28 in |
| Stand weight | 68 lb |

| Standard | Meets ASTM standards recognized by TMA (listing) |
Pros
- + Wide mesh seat for long sits
- + Jumbo 23 x 28 inch platform
- + Rail adjusts for height and depth
- + Flip-out footrest
Cons
- − Only two owner reviews so far
- − One owner wanted a back bar and a sturdier feel
- − Costs more per foot than the Big Game stands
Ol' Man 22 ft Big Daddy Jaw & Truss Ladder Stand
Tallest ladder stand (easiest to secure)

Sportsman's Warehouse: $224.99 (marked down from $249.99) on October 5, 2026, in stock, ships to your home · Height: 22 ft · Rated: 300 lb
Most ladder stand accidents and close calls happen while you're setting the stand or making that first climb to strap it to the tree. Ol' Man's answer is the Clamp Down Jaw System: the stand locks tight to the tree before you ever leave the ground. Its Truss System is meant to stop the ladder from creaking and lets you set it on offset trees, which opens up spots a standard ladder stand can't use.
At 22 feet, the Big Daddy is the tallest stand here, which helps keep you above a deer's line of sight and spreads your scent. Sportsman's lists it at 76 lb and a 300-lb rating, with a 21 x 16 inch Textilene seat with molded EVA foam padding, padded armrests, a flip-up adjustable shooting rail, an adjustable footrest, water-resistant seat covers and a full-body harness.
There are no owner reviews yet. Owners of the related 18-foot Marksman like the clamp system but say it takes two or three people to stand up. The Big Daddy was $224.99 (marked down from $249.99) on October 5.

| Model | OT-204 |
| Height | 22 ft |
| Seat | 21 x 16 in Textilene, EVA foam cushion |

Pros
- + Locks to the tree before you climb
- + Tallest stand in this guide at 22 ft
- + Truss System for quiet ladder and offset trees
- + Padded armrests and adjustable footrest

Muddy Skybox Deluxe Ladder Stand
Best tall single stand with a double-rail ladder

Sportsman's Warehouse: $251.99 (marked down from $279.99) on October 5, 2026, in stock for store pickup or free ship-to-store; home shipping was unavailable · Height: 20 ft to shooting rail · Rated: 350 lb
The Skybox Deluxe climbs on a double-rail ladder, two rails instead of one, which owners on Sportsman's repeatedly say makes it feel more stable than single-rail stands. Muddy lists 20 feet to the shooting rail, a 22 x 17 inch Flex-Tek seat that flips back, a 19 x 25 inch platform, a two-way adjustable padded rail, a flip-back footrest and padded armrests. It weighs 82 lb and is rated for 350 lb, with one 4-point harness included.
One owner made a point that applies to every ladder stand: "20 feet" is to the shooting rail, and they measured the standing platform at 16 feet 4 inches. Keep that in mind when you compare heights.
Owners (16 reviews) mostly praise the comfort, stability and quietness; one has used theirs for six or seven seasons. Complaints include tedious assembly, a bright finish one owner repainted, and one report of a ladder-step weld failing. Muddy's own price was $339.99; Sportsman's had it at $251.99 (marked down from $279.99) on October 5, but only for store pickup or ship-to-store, not home delivery, to the ZIP code we checked.
| Model | MUD-MLS1550 |
| Height | 20 ft to shooting rail |
| Seat | 22 x 17 in Flex-Tek, flips back |

Rivers Edge TwoPlex 2-Man Ladder Stand
Best two-person ladder stand

Sportsman's Warehouse: $287.99 (marked down from $319.99) on October 5, 2026, in stock for store pickup or free ship-to-store; home shipping was unavailable · Height: 17 ft · Rated: 500 lb
The TwoPlex is the highest-rated stand in this guide on Sportsman's: 4.8 of 5 across 21 reviews. It's a true two-person stand with a no-split TearTuff mesh bench (no bar in the middle, so one hunter can sit in the center), a 40-inch-wide platform, a two-way adjustable shooting rail and dual tree blades for platform stability. Rivers Edge includes two ratchet straps plus criss-cross stability straps and an adjustable stabilizer bar.
Sportsman's lists it at 17 feet, 86 lb and a 500-lb rating. Owners describe it as very stable, comfortable and roomy enough for two, and several say it's great for hunting with a kid. One owner who has put up Muddy, Hawk and other brands calls it the most stable. The one complaint: a seat that didn't fit per the instructions and sagged.
It was $287.99 (marked down from $319.99) on October 5, available for store pickup or free ship-to-store but not home delivery to the ZIP we checked. Sportsman's also lists a newer TwoPlex-LS with ground-level strapping for $296.99.

Big Game Guardian XLT 2-Person Ladder Stand
Best budget two-person ladder stand

Sportsman's Warehouse: $143.99 (marked down from $159.99) on October 5, 2026, in stock, ships to your home · Height: 18 ft · Rated: 500 lb
The Guardian XLT is the cheapest way into a two-person ladder stand from Sportsman's, and the only one here with two harnesses in the box. Big Game lists 18 feet tall, a 36.5 x 12 inch Flex-Tek bench, a 36.5 x 12.5 inch platform, a padded flip-back rail and a 500-lb rating, at just 53 lb.
Owner reviews (32) are honestly mixed, and worth reading before you buy. Fans call it roomy for the money and like the included harnesses; one says it's really a roomy one-person stand with space for gear, which is why they bought a two-person stand. Critics point to a narrow ladder (about a foot wide, one says), a small seat that can be noisy when you move, poor instructions, and holes that didn't line up. One owner reported broken welds while assembling. Inspect every weld and bolt before it goes up.
At $143.99 (marked down from $159.99) on October 5, in stock with home shipping, it's a budget stand that's best treated as one hunter plus gear, or a parent and a small child.
| Model | BGM-LS4860 |
| Height | 18 ft |
| Seat | 36.5 x 12 in Flex-Tek bench |

Rivers Edge Bowman LS Ladder Stand
Best ladder stand for bowhunters

Sportsman's Warehouse: $224.99 (marked down from $249.99) on October 5, 2026, in stock, ships to your home · Height: 19 ft 5 in to armrests · Rated: 300 lb
Rivers Edge designed the Bowman LS for archery. It stands 19 feet 5 inches to the armrests, which helps keep you above a close deer's line of sight, and lets you sit tight to the tree to hide your outline. The TearTuff mesh seat and backrest flip up so you can stand for the shot, and the platform is 27 inches deep for room to turn and draw.
The big safety feature is Rivers Edge's Lockdown Strapping System: you ratchet the stand to the tree from the ground, so nobody has to hold the ladder while someone makes the first climb to strap it. Sportsman's lists it at 71 lb and a 300-lb rating, with a 20 x 17 inch seat and an adjustable stabilizer bar, and says it meets ASTM standards recognized by TMA.
It's new at Sportsman's with no owner reviews yet. It was $224.99 (marked down from $249.99) on October 5, in stock with home shipping.

Big Game Warrior DXT Ladder Stand
Lightest and cheapest ladder stand

Sportsman's Warehouse: $134.99 (marked down from $149.99) on October 5, 2026, in stock, ships to your home · Height: 17 ft to shooting rail · Rated: 300 lb
If you want to hang several stands for different winds, the Warrior DXT is the one owners buy in multiples. Big Game lists it at just 43 lb (the lightest here), 17 feet to the shooting rail and a 300-lb rating, with a Flex-Tek seat and backrest (17 x 14 inches), a flip-up padded rail, a flip-back footrest and an 18 x 10 inch platform. It comes with one 4-point harness, one ratchet strap and two stabilizer straps.
Owners (31 reviews) mostly call it a great economy stand, light enough to hang alone and comfortable enough for all-day sits; one bent the rail down nearly flat for closer shots. A few report holes that didn't line up or a missing part. The small 18 x 10 inch platform is the trade-off for the weight and price: there's no room to turn around, so it suits hunters who shoot to one side.
At $134.99 (marked down from $149.99) on October 5, in stock with home shipping, it's the lowest price per foot of height in this guide.
| Model | BGM-LS3811 |

What to look for in a ladder stand
- Height, measured the same way. Ladder stands put you roughly 10 to 20 feet up, per hunter-ed.com. Makers quote height to the shooting rail, armrests or overall, so the platform you stand on is a few feet lower than the number on the box.
- Weight rating with your gear. The rating has to cover you, your clothes, your pack and your bow or rifle. Single stands here are rated 300 to 350 lb; two-person stands 500 lb.
- Seat and platform. A 1.5-person stand gives one hunter a wider seat and deeper platform, which matters for long sits and for turning to shoot. Mesh seats are quiet and dry fast; foam seats are softer when it's cold.
- How it attaches. Standard stands use ratchet straps you tighten at the top. Newer designs (Ol' Man's Clamp Down Jaw, Rivers Edge's Lockdown Strapping) let you secure the stand from the ground, which removes the riskiest climb.
- Stand weight and helpers. These stands weigh 43 to 86 lb. Hunter education guidance says it takes three to five people to put up or take down a ladder stand safely, so plan a work day before the season.
Ladder stand safety (from hunter-ed.com)
Falls are the number one cause of injury or death when hunting from tree stands, according to hunter-ed.com's national study guide. Its key rules: wear a full-body harness (fall arrest system) and stay connected to the tree; use three points of contact when climbing in and out; never exceed the stand's weight limit (it includes your gear); don't climb with anything in your hands or on your back, and use a haul line for your bow or unloaded firearm; check the stand before every use; and don't leave a stand attached to a tree for more than two weeks, because weather and animals damage straps and parts.
Every stand here includes at least one harness. If you need a spare or a lifeline, see tree stand safety gear at Sportsman's Warehouse.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best ladder stand for the money?
The Big Game Hunter HD 1.5 at $161.99 on October 5, 2026: 18 feet 6 inches to the rail, a 350-lb rating, a wide seat and deep platform, and a full-body harness included. If you just want the lowest price, the Big Game Warrior DXT was $134.99.
How tall should a ladder stand be?
Most ladder stands put you 15 to 20 feet up; hunter-ed.com describes ladder stands as 10 to 20 feet. Higher helps keep you out of a deer's line of sight and spreads your scent, but it also makes shot angles steeper and any fall worse. The Ol' Man Big Daddy (22 ft) is the tallest stand here.
How many people does it take to put up a ladder stand?
Hunter-ed.com's study guide says three to five people are needed to put up or take down a ladder stand safely. Stands with ground-level locking systems, like the Ol' Man Big Daddy and Rivers Edge Bowman LS, make the first climb safer, but you still want help raising the stand.
Can two adults really fit in a two-person ladder stand?
Owners say the Rivers Edge TwoPlex (40-inch platform, no-split bench) fits two comfortably. Several Big Game Guardian XLT owners say it's really one adult plus gear, or a parent and a small child. Check the seat width and your combined weight with gear against the rating.
Do I need a safety harness in a ladder stand?
Yes. Wear a full-body harness and stay connected to the tree from the time you leave the ground until you're back down. Every stand in this guide comes with at least one harness; the Big Game Guardian XLT includes two.
Can I order a ladder stand online from Sportsman's Warehouse?
Yes, but check delivery. On October 5, 2026, six of the eight stands here could ship to a home address. The Muddy Skybox Deluxe and Rivers Edge TwoPlex were store pickup or free ship-to-store only for the ZIP we checked.
The bottom line
Buy the Big Game Hunter HD 1.5 if you want a roomy, comfortable single stand at a fair price. Buy the Rivers Edge TwoPlex if you're hunting with a kid or partner and want the stand owners rate highest. And if setup safety is your top worry, the Ol' Man Big Daddy locks to the tree before anyone climbs. Whichever you choose, put it up with help before the season, wear your harness every time, and haul your gear up on a rope. Then round out your kit with our 25 hunting essentials, a rangefinder for those steep shot angles, and hunting binoculars.
