Why Garmin earned its place.
Gary Burrell and Min Kao founded Garmin in 1989 to bring civilian GPS to the everyday outdoor user. Decades later the Kansas headquarters supports inReach satellite SOS in the backcountry, fish finders on the lake, dog collars on the upland hunt, and the wristwatches the special operations community wears. Garmin remains independent, employee-rich, and built around the principle that a device should still work when the cell tower doesn't.
