Product description
The Homefront Compact is for the person who wants one good knife in the pocket every day, without it looking like a tactical tool. CRKT sums it up as the looks of a classic WWII knife with the fit and finish of a modern favorite. Ken Onion designed it as a high-end version of his original Homefront, with a shorter blade made for everyday carry.
The upgrade starts with the steel. The 2.91-inch drop point blade is S35VN, a premium steel CRKT picked for its cutting performance, finished in black DLC. That is the steel you want doing the daily work: opening boxes, cutting cord and twine, trimming a tag, slicing an apple at lunch. The blade is 0.09 inch thick with a plain edge.
Opening is old-school on purpose. It is a traditional, non-assisted flipper, so the blade swings out under your own control, and a liner lock holds it open and can be closed easily with one hand. The handle is light brown G10 with an aluminum bolster, chosen for grip in all conditions, and the contrast with the black blade is what gives this knife its look. A deep-carry clip keeps it low in the pocket, and a lanyard hole lets you add a fob.
Closed, it measures 3.88 inches. Open, it is 6.81 inches, and it weighs 3.0 ounces, sized for everyday pocket carry. Sold and shipped by OSS America, with free shipping on orders of $99 or more and 30-day returns on new, unused items.
Questions and answers
Is the Homefront Compact assisted opening?
No. It uses a traditional non-assisted flipper, so the blade opens by the flipper tab alone, and a liner lock holds it open.
How is it different from the original Homefront?
CRKT calls it a high-end version of Ken Onion's original Homefront, with a shorter drop point blade made of premium S35VN steel.
Which color is this?
This is CRKT part K245BKP, which CRKT lists as Brown: a light brown G10 handle with an aluminum bolster and a black DLC-finished blade.
Who designed it?
Ken Onion. CRKT notes he created the first commercially successful assisted opening mechanism in 1996 and was the youngest inductee into the Blade Magazine Hall of Fame in 2008.
