Best Fishing Kayaks (2026): 8 Picks for Budget, Pedal and Lightweight

The right fishing kayak gets you to water a boat can't reach,, quietly and cheaply. The wrong one sits in the garage because it's too heavy to load, too tippy to stand in, or too small for you and your gear.

We compared the fishing kayaks people are searching for this fall, from a $230 inflatable to a $2,700 pedal boat, and ranked eight. We looked hard at the three things searches say buyers care about most right now: budget, pedal drives and light weight. Every price was checked live on October 5, 2026, and every spec comes from the retailer listing or the maker. This is a research guide, not a hands-on test, and we say so wherever something couldn't be confirmed.

The short answer

For most anglers, the Pelican Catch Mode 110 is the one to beat. Our picks:

Prices checked October 5, 2026, before tax. The Lost Creek kayaks at Sportsman's Warehouse ship free to a store or are picked up in store.

How we chose

Nobody at OSS America paddled these kayaks for this guide. We started with search data: over the last 30 days, Google's related searches for "fishing kayak" are led by "kayak for fishing" and "best fishing kayak," while "best budget fishing kayak" and "lightweight fishing kayak" are rising fast and "pedal fishing kayak" holds steady. So we picked the best answer for each of those buyers.

We checked Sportsman's Warehouse first. It lists 28 kayaks, but on October 5 most of its fishing models (Old Town Sportsman 120 and Vapor 10 Angler, Lifetime Tamarack) were out of stock, and its inflatable Hydro Force showed no shipping option and no local stock. The two Lost Creek pedal kayaks and the Oru folding kayak were orderable there. The other five link to Amazon listings shipped and sold by Amazon (the Intex is sold by a third-party seller). We compared type (paddle, pedal, inflatable, folding), weight, capacity, stability and standing room, fishing features, warranty, owner ratings and price.

Prices and stock checked October 5, 2026 (Amazon listings shipped and sold by Amazon.com except the Intex, sold by a third-party seller). Specs from the Sportsman's Warehouse and Amazon listings and Old Town's website. Capacity is the maker's maximum for paddler plus gear.

Best fishing kayaks 2026, listed max capacity per $100 and kayak weight: Intex Excursion Pro K1 95.7 lb per $100 and 31.2 lb, Lifetime Tamarack Angler 100 57.1 lb per $100 and 51 lb, Pelican Sentinel 100X Angler 51.9 and 44 lb, Pelican Catch Mode 110 42.2 and 75 lb, Oru Lake Sport 35.7 and 18 lb, Lost Creek Angler 12 31.7 and 76 lb, Lost Creek Angler 10.5 27.6 and 78 lb, Old Town Sportsman PDL 106 16.7 and 107 lb assembled
Capacity per dollar vs. carry weight: listed maximum capacity per $100 of price and listed kayak weight, prices checked October 5, 2026. Save it or pin it.

How to read the chart: the blue bars show how many pounds of capacity each $100 buys. Budget paddle kayaks win this easily. The orange bars show the catch: capacity and pedal drives add weight. The pedal kayaks weigh 76 to 107 lb, which means a cart, a trailer or a friend.

Pelican Catch Mode 110

Best fishing kayak overall

Pelican Catch Mode 110 fishing kayak
Pelican Catch Mode 110. Photo: Amazon listing.

Amazon: $888.98 · Length: 10 ft 8 in · Capacity: 375 lb · Rating: 4.6/5 (347 ratings)

If you want one paddle kayak that does the fishing jobs well without costing pedal-drive money, start with the Catch Mode 110. Pelican built it on a tunnel hull with a wide, flat deck, which it says gives you a large standing area and room for gear.

The seat is Pelican's Ergoboost, an adjustable chair that sits higher than a molded-in seat for a better view of the water, with an EVA pad and storage underneath. You get three flush-mount rod holders, two 4-inch rigging tracks for a fish finder or rod holder, anti-slip deck pads with a built-in fish ruler, and a stern skeg that drops down to help it track straight in wind.

Amazon listed it at $888.98 on October 5, 2026, shipped and sold by Amazon, with 4.6/5 (347 ratings). The listing gives a 375 lb maximum capacity and a 75 lb weight for this version (another Catch Mode 110 listing shows 67 lb), so it's a two-person lift or a cart job for most of us. Pelican's own store had the same model at $879.99, but Pelican says watercraft bought directly are final sale.

Pros

  • + Wide, flat deck built for standing

  • + Skeg helps in wind
  • + 4.6/5 from 347 Amazon ratings

Lost Creek Angler 12 Pedal Kayak

Best pedal fishing kayak for the money

Lost Creek Angler 12 Pedal Kayak fishing kayak
Lost Creek Angler 12 Pedal Kayak. Photo: Sportsman's Warehouse listing. Camo pattern on the listing photo may vary.

Sportsman's Warehouse: $1,499.97 (was $1,999.99) · Length: 12.4 ft · Capacity: 475 lb · Rating: 4.4/5 (22 reviews)

Pedal kayaks let you move and hold position with your legs while your hands stay on the rod, and that's why "pedal fishing kayak" keeps showing up in searches. The problem is price: the big-name pedal boats start well above $2,000. The Lost Creek Angler 12 was on clearance at Sportsman's for $1,499.97 on October 5, down from $1,999.99, which makes it the least expensive pedal kayak we found from a store we could link.

It uses Lost Creek's Impulse Drive, which pedals forward and backward on an 8:1 gear ratio, lifts out completely for shallow water or paddling, and has a prop guard. The listing quotes a top speed of about 6.2 mph. Steering is a rudder with a hand control. For fishing you get four flush-mount rod holders plus a flexible rod holder, six aluminum accessory tracks, an anchor trolley, a tackle box and bucket, and front and rear hatches.

Sportsman's lists it at 12.4 ft, 34 inches wide, 76 lb, with a 475 lb capacity and a 5-year limited warranty, and it's rated 4.4/5 (22 reviews). It ships free to your local Sportsman's store (7 to 12 business days estimated); home delivery wasn't available.

  • + Highest capacity here (475 lb)
  • + Drive pulls out for shallow water
  • + Lots of tracks and rod holders

Cons

  • − Ship-to-store pickup only
  • − Lesser-known brand with a shorter track record
  • − Clearance price may not last

Lifetime Tamarack Angler 100

Best budget fishing kayak

Lifetime Tamarack Angler 100 fishing kayak
Lifetime Tamarack Angler 100. Photo: Amazon listing.

Amazon: $481.30 · Length: 10 ft · Capacity: 275 lb · Rating: 4.4/5 (1,343 ratings)

Searches for "best budget fishing kayak" are up sharply this month, and the Tamarack Angler 100 is the kayak that comes up most for a reason. It's a simple 10-foot sit-on-top with a stable flat bottom, a paddle in the box, and the basics you need to fish: two flush-mount rod holders and a top-mount holder, a paddle keeper, and two 6-inch storage compartments.

Lifetime makes it from UV-protected high-density polyethylene with deep tracking channels and a skeg so it paddles straighter than most budget boats. The padded seat back and seat pad adjust, and molded footrest positions fit different leg lengths. Amazon lists it at 51 lb with a 275 lb maximum capacity and a 5-year limited warranty.

It had 4.4/5 (1,343 ratings) on Amazon, by far the most of any kayak in this guide, at $481.30 shipped and sold by Amazon on October 5. Sportsman's lists a Tamarack Angler for $399.99, but it was out of stock that day. The trade-off: 275 lb fills up fast with a big angler, a cooler and tackle.

Pelican Sentinel 100X Angler

Best lightweight hard-shell fishing kayak

Pelican Sentinel 100X Angler fishing kayak
Pelican Sentinel 100X Angler. Photo: Amazon listing.

Amazon: $529.63 · Length: 9 ft 6 in · Weight: 44 lb · Rating: 4.4/5 (531 ratings)

"Lightweight fishing kayak" is one of the fastest-rising searches in this category, and most people asking want a hard-shell boat they can load onto a roof rack alone. At 44 lb, the Sentinel 100X Angler is the lightest hard-shell fishing kayak in this guide. Pelican says it measures 9 ft 6 in and uses its Ram-X material.

It's a stripped-down fishing kayak, but not a bare one: two flush-mount rod holders, paddle and rod tie-downs, a center console with compartments, a front storage platform with a mesh deck cover, and Pelican's ExoPak, a removable storage box that drops into the rear tank well. The multi-chine flat-bottom hull is designed for stability, and Pelican says it adds flotation inside the hull to meet or beat ABYC standards.

Amazon had it for $529.63 on October 5, shipped and sold by Amazon, with 4.4/5 (531 ratings). The trade-offs are a 275 lb capacity and a short hull that's slower over distance; it suits ponds, small lakes and slow rivers.

  • + 531 Amazon ratings, 4.4/5

Cons

  • − 275 lb capacity

Old Town Sportsman PDL 106

Best premium pedal fishing kayak

Old Town Sportsman PDL 106 fishing kayak
Old Town Sportsman PDL 106. Photo: Amazon listing. Color shown may differ from the Ember Camo listing.

Amazon: $2,699.99 · Length: 10 ft 6 in · Capacity: 450 lb · Rating: 4.7/5 (23 Amazon ratings)

Old Town's PDL Drive is one of the best-known pedal systems in kayak fishing, and the Sportsman PDL 106 puts it in a short, stable hull that's easier to store and transport than a 12-footer. Old Town says the drive gives instant forward and reverse, is saltwater-ready, and carries a 5-year warranty, with a limited lifetime warranty on the hull.

The DoubleU hull is built as a stand-up fishing platform. You get an adjustable, breathable seat, two 18-inch accessory tracks, one forward-facing and two rear-facing flush rod holders, EVA deck pads, a large tank well with bungees, a sealed bow hatch, a universal transducer mount for a fish finder and an included rudder. Old Town lists it at 10 ft 6 in by 36 inches, 107 lb assembled (the seat is 6 lb and the pedal console 18 lb, and both come out for transport), with 450 lb total and 343 lb usable capacity.

On October 5 Amazon had the Ember Camo version for $2,699.99 (shipped and sold by Amazon, usually ships in 5 to 7 days, 4.7/5 (23 Amazon ratings)). Old Town's site listed it at $2,799.99 (4.9 from 31 reviews). A paddle is sold separately.

Lost Creek Angler 10.5 Pedal Kayak

Best compact pedal kayak (in-store pickup)

Lost Creek Angler 10.5 Pedal Kayak fishing kayak
Lost Creek Angler 10.5 Pedal Kayak. Photo: Sportsman's Warehouse listing. Camo pattern on the listing photo may vary.

Sportsman's Warehouse: $1,699.99 · Length: 10.5 ft · Capacity: 470 lb · Rating: 4.2/5 (40 reviews)

The Angler 10.5 is the shorter sibling of our pedal-value pick. It uses the same Impulse Drive, which Lost Creek calls the simplest and lightest pedal unit on the market (a maker claim we can't verify), plus a rudder with a steering box you can mount on either side, a high-back seat that adjusts for leg length, four flush-mount rod holders, a front well and a rear hatch.

Sportsman's lists it at 10.5 ft, 34.5 inches wide, 78 lb, with a 470 lb capacity and a 5-year limited warranty. It's rated 4.2/5 (40 reviews), the most reviews of any Lost Creek boat on the site.

Here's the odd part: on October 5 it was $1,699.99, which is more than the longer Angler 12 on clearance. It also showed in-store pickup only (it was available same day at the Florida store we checked), with no shipping option. Unless you need the shorter hull, the Angler 12 is the better deal right now.

Length / width10.5 ft / 34.5 in
Max capacity470 lb
Weight78 lb

Pros

  • + Pedal drive in a shorter hull
  • + 470 lb capacity
  • + 40 Sportsman's reviews
  • + Can pick up same day where stocked

Cons

  • − Costs more than the Angler 12 on clearance
  • − In-store pickup only
  • − 78 lb is heavy for its length

Intex Excursion Pro K1

Best inflatable and cheapest way in

Intex Excursion Pro K1 fishing kayak
Intex Excursion Pro K1. Photo: Amazon listing.

Amazon: $229.99 · Length: 10 ft · Capacity: 220 lb · Rating: 4.1/5 (1,229 ratings)

If you don't have a roof rack, a truck or a garage, an inflatable is the only kayak that fits your life, and the Excursion Pro K1 is Intex's fishing-ready one. It rolls into a carry bag and comes as a complete set: two 86-inch paddles, a high-output pump, two detachable fishing rod holders, a mount for a GoPro or phone, and a repair patch.

Intex builds it from a 3-ply laminate of its SuperStrong PVC and inflates it to high pressure for rigidity. Two removable skegs help it track in deep or shallow water, stainless D-rings let you tie down dry bags, and there's storage space in the bow and stern. Inflated it's 10 ft by 3 ft by 1.6 ft with a 220 lb capacity; Amazon lists the set at 31.2 lb.

On October 5 it was $229.99 on Amazon (sold by a third-party seller, not Amazon), with 4.1/5 (1,229 ratings). Know the limits: a 220 lb capacity is the lowest here, the warranty is 90 days, and an inflatable sits higher in the wind than a hard shell. For calm water, it's a cheap way to find out if kayak fishing is for you.

Size inflated10 ft x 3 ft x 1.6 ft
Max capacity220 lb
Weight31.2 lb (set, as listed)

Pros

  • + About $230 for a complete set
  • + Stores in a closet, rides in a trunk
  • + Rod holders included
  • + 1,229 Amazon ratings

Cons

  • − 220 lb capacity
  • − 90-day warranty
  • − Catches wind; best on calm water

Oru Lake Sport Folding Kayak

Lightest kayak here (not a dedicated fishing kayak)

Oru Lake Sport Folding Kayak fishing kayak
Oru Lake Sport Folding Kayak. Photo: Sportsman's Warehouse listing.

Sportsman's Warehouse: $699.99 · Length: 9 ft · Weight: 18 lb

We're including the Oru Lake Sport for one reason: weight. At 18 lb it's less than half the weight of the lightest hard-shell fishing kayak here, and it folds into a box you can carry in one hand and store in a closet. If you hike to remote ponds, live in an apartment, or simply can't lift a 50 lb kayak, it's worth a look.

Be clear about what it isn't: Oru and Sportsman's list it as a recreational kayak, and it has no rod holders, tracks or fishing features. Sportsman's lists it at 9 ft, 32 inches wide, with a 250 lb capacity, a 66 x 24 inch cockpit, an adjustable backrest and footrest, a folding floorboard that keeps the bottom flat for stability, a 30-day guarantee and a 3-year warranty.

On October 5 Sportsman's had it for $699.99 with home delivery or free ship-to-store (both estimated October 20), with no reviews yet. The standard Oru Lake was $499.99 at Sportsman's at 17 lb.

Which should you buy?

What to look for in a fishing kayak

  • Sit-on-top for most anglers. Sit-on-tops are easier to get on and off, drain themselves, and leave room to stand and rig gear.
  • Capacity with room to spare. Add your weight, clothing, tackle, a cooler and an anchor. Stay well under the maximum; kayaks paddle and track worse near their limit.
  • Weight you can actually lift. If you're car-topping alone, look under about 50 lb. Heavier boats need a cart, a trailer or a truck bed.
  • Pedal or paddle. Pedals free your hands and let you hold in wind or current, but they cost more, weigh more and need deeper water.
  • Tracks and rod holders. Accessory tracks let you add a fish finder, rod holders and a camera later. Flush-mount rod holders behind the seat keep rods out of the way.
  • Safety gear. Wear a PFD every time, carry a whistle and a light, and check your state's registration rules.
  • Gear up. See our best-selling fishing lines and boating essentials.

Kayak, canoe or small boat?

If you fish with a partner or kids, a canoe or small jon boat may serve you better than two kayaks. Our fishing and recreational boats and kayaks and boats and canoes for fishing and camping guides compare those options.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best fishing kayak for most people?

The Pelican Catch Mode 110: a 10 ft 8 in sit-on-top with a wide, flat standing deck, an elevated Ergoboost seat, three rod holders, rigging tracks and a skeg, rated 4.6/5 from 347 Amazon ratings and $888.98 on October 5, 2026.

What is the best budget fishing kayak?

The Lifetime Tamarack Angler 100. It was $481.30 on Amazon on October 5, 2026, includes a paddle, has three rod holders and a 5-year warranty, and has more owner ratings (1,343) than any other kayak in this guide. If you need to spend even less, the Intex Excursion Pro K1 inflatable set was $229.99.

Is a pedal fishing kayak worth it?

If you fish moving water, wind or big lakes, or troll a lot, pedals let you hold position and move while both hands stay on the rod. The trade-offs are price, weight and draft. The Lost Creek Angler 12 was about $1,500 on clearance at Sportsman's Warehouse on October 5, 2026, versus about $2,700 for the Old Town Sportsman PDL 106 on Amazon.

What is the lightest fishing kayak?

In this guide, the lightest hard-shell fishing kayak is the Pelican Sentinel 100X Angler at 44 lb. The Intex Excursion Pro K1 inflatable set is listed at 31.2 lb, and the Oru Lake Sport folding kayak weighs 18 lb but isn't a dedicated fishing kayak.

Can you stand up in a fishing kayak?

Many fishing kayaks are designed for it. Pelican describes the Catch Mode 110's flat deck as a large standing area, and Old Town designs the Sportsman PDL 106's DoubleU hull as a stand-up platform. Practice standing in calm, shallow water first, and always wear a PFD.

Does Sportsman's Warehouse ship kayaks?

On October 5, 2026, the Lost Creek pedal kayaks at Sportsman's Warehouse showed ship-to-store (Angler 12, 7 to 12 business days) or in-store pickup (Angler 10.5) with no home delivery, while the Oru folding kayaks could also ship to your home.

The bottom line

Buy the Pelican Catch Mode 110 if you want the best all-around paddle fishing kayak for under $900. Buy the Lost Creek Angler 12 if you want pedals while it's on clearance, or the Old Town Sportsman PDL 106 if you want the proven name. And if money or weight is the limit, the Lifetime Tamarack Angler 100 and the 44 lb Pelican Sentinel 100X Angler will put you on the water for about $500. Whatever you choose, wear your PFD and start on calm water.
